about our
Scholarships
Women’s clubs were noted for promoting educational efforts & community contribution around the country by their contemporaries. Today, we remain committed to that mission.
John Duggan Memorial Scholarship
Each year the Washington Woman’s Club awards a $1,500 scholarship to two outstanding Wilkes County seniors in honor of John Rochford Duggan. John Duggan was a prodigy of an athlete from an early age. He was an energetic young man who held various sports records in Washington-Wilkes, regionally and nationally. After being awarded a full football scholarship to the University of Georgia in December of 1971, John had a recurrence of cancer. The varsity “G” letter was presented posthumously in 1972. The John Duggan Memorial Scholarship has been awarded since 1978 to outstanding Washington-Wilkes students who exemplify the character, spirit and talent of John Rochford Duggan.
Nettles-Dillard Scholarship
The Washington Woman’s Club annually administers the Nettles-Dillard Scholarship to a Wilkes County resident who is returning to continue his or her education after an interruption due to illness, need to work, family matters, etc. The $1,000 scholarship is available to individuals who have been accepted to an accredited college or technical school for the current annual term.
